Matcha Mango Smoothie

Jump to Recipe·Print Recipe

This Matcha Mango Smoothie oozes spring and summer vibes with frozen mango and banana, fresh spinach, and finely-ground matcha! It’s a delicious green smoothie that’ll knock your socks off! {Vegan + Paleo}

I have been in love with matcha tea for a few years now. And even though it’s delicious all year round, I especially enjoy it when spring is in bloom and summer is on full blast. Matcha Mango Smoothie blends well with sweet ingredients like fruit and maple syrup but still offers an earthy, comforting flavor.

And unlike some recipes that require a precise balance of ingredients for best results, this Matcha Mango Smoothie is easy to customize. If you want more mango, then add more mango. And if banana is your thing, add more of that instead. Throw in a few frozen pineapple chunks for an extra citrusy flavor, if the mood strikes. And if you’re looking for a way to hide a little spinach in your daily routine, then definitely give this recipe a whirl.

However you want to prepare your smoothie, go for it. This is a difficult one to mess up, and believe me, if there is someone who could mess up a recipe, well, you’re reading her blog right now. And I haven’t messed this one up…yet. 😂

If you’re new to matcha, then you might be wondering if it really contains caffeine. The answer is, yes, this tea contains caffeine, so proceed accordingly. But I have found that while it definitely gives me a boost of energy, I don’t get jitters or feel unnerved when I drink it. Because matcha has such a strong, earthy taste, a little goes a long way, providing almost a stop-gap to prevent over-consumption.

If you’re up for a green tea smoothie recipe that also plays well with fruits and vegetables, then sidle up because we’re going to start our mornings off right with a batch of this vibrant Matcha Mango Smoothie.

What you’ll need to make Matcha Mango Smoothie

Frozen fruit, handfuls of fresh spinach, a teaspoonful or two of matcha, and you’ll be in business!

  • Frozen mango chunks and frozen banana slices. One of the benefits of using frozen fruit, aside from the frothy consistency they’ll offer, is that you don’t need to add ice cubes, which helps ensure you’ll have a vibrant, thicker smoothie of choice.
  • Spinach. A few handfuls are perfect here. And I don’t worry about trimming stems. Throw them in and go!
  • Matcha powder. There are countless varieties and brands of matcha available, and not all are created equal. If you’re curious about finding just the right type of matcha for your palate and budget, then check out The Daily Tea’s article, High vs. Low Quality Matcha? 5 Easy Tips to Know the Difference. If you love matcha then add a little more to this smoothie. If you’re new to matcha or aren’t quite sure how much you want, then start out with a teaspoon or so and work your way up.
  • Almond milk. If your blender comes with a tamper, keep it close by when prepare this recipe and use it to gently force the ingredients into the blender blades. Doing so means you won’t have to add as much almond milk, adding to that thick, creamy smoothie vibe. If the blades still get stuck, likely because of the spinach, then add a tablespoon or two of extra almond milk, but only as a last resort. Other milk alternatives will work here, too, including cashew milk, rice milk, and coconut milk.
  • Chia seeds. I love to top my smoothie with chia seeds. However, you can also blend them into your smoothie. This will definitely thicken up your smoothie and is a helpful solution if your smoothie is a little thinner than you’d like.
  • Agave nectar, 100% pure honey, or maple syrup. You may or may not need a sweetener in this smoothie, depending on the quality of the matcha you use, the sweetness of the fruits, and your personal preference!

How to make Matcha Mango Smoothie

This is a throw-it-all-in-and-go kind of a recipe. Mix it and forget about it!

  1. Add the ingredients to the blender, in the order listed, except for the chia seeds, which will be added later. Blend on a low to medium speed to get the ingredients blending smoothly.
  2. Gradually turn up the speed to medium or high speed and blend until smooth.
  3. Blend in chia seeds or use them as a smoothie topping.
  4. Store in a glass container in the refrigerator for about 2 days. Smoothie will thicken as it stands.
