Spiriteds, do you have a minute? Can we talk briefly about these Salted Chocolate-Dipped Mandarin Orange Slices? Because maybe you need more fruit in your life. Or chocolate. Possibly you need something for the holiday party that is simple and easy yet ridiculously delicious (say that three times fast). Um, this gluten-free, dairy-free chocolate recipe is basically all of those things.
And you know what? K-Hubs and I CANNOT not eat them. I have absolutely no idea what the girls think of Salted Chocolate-Dipped Mandarin Orange Slices because WE NEVER SHARED any with them. First I made a batch, and then K-Hubs and I plopped our tired selves on the couch, buried our faces in this citrusy-chocolatey decadence, and finally called the day a win. All I want to do is make another batch and then another batch and then another batch after that.
K-Hubs’ favorite part of this recipe is the sea salt, and who can blame him? Should the snack/dessert/treat be sweet or salty? HOW IS ANYONE SUPPOSED TO EVEN KNOW? Basically, I always want it all, and this recipe, in all its glory, knows as much. Salted Chocolate-Dipped Mandarin Orange Slices are the perfect blend of juicy, citrus flavor with crunchy, salty goodness and smooth, sweet chocolate. This is where I die, Spiriteds, because the combination is so ethereal.
Salted Chocolate-Dipped Mandarin Orange Slices are also easy to prepare, no baking required. This makes them perfect for the holiday season. I have no intentions this year of going holiday crazy in the kitchen. Maybe I’ll go the good kind of crazy, where I’m excited about the food I’m preparing. But, no, I will not go frustrated crazy where I’ve overextended myself for foods that I could honestly do without. I plan to NOT spend all the money on ingredients, and I DO plan to watch all the movies. We will take time for ourselves this season, Spiriteds, and this is one recipe that doesn’t break the bank or become a full-on time suck.
To make your own Salted Chocolate-Dipped Mandarin Orange Slices, first peel your mandarin oranges. Then melt your chocolate chips with a little coconut oil. Next dip in, and finally salt away. Voila, you have a treat! For best results, I highly suggest preparing a batch or 30 the day you plan to enjoy them and leave the finished product at room temperature. The chocolate will harden as it sets. If you find that some of the chocolate is still soft, then cover your slices and stick them in the fridge for a few minutes. The coconut oil mixed in with the chocolate will harden quickly, making it easier to peel your slices from the wax paper and serve them to your guests…or yourself, if like us you find sharing is hard to do.
Seriously, I don’t know where this recipe has been all my life or how I ever managed to survive without it, but Salted Chocolate-Dipped Mandarin Orange Slices are EXACTLY how I plan to do the holidays this year. If you are #same, then tuck this one in your recipe tin and call it good.
