There are so many creative ways to decorate your classroom for Halloween without getting in over your head. Halloween classroom decor doesn’t have to be spooky expensive or so complicated it’s scary. A few well-placed items in your classroom will set the tone for October.
Bonus idea: If you play music in your classroom, then consider playing some Halloween music. This could either be actual Halloween songs (“Monster Mash,” anyone?) or seasonal sounds/fantasy music. I’ve found great playlist ideas on YouTube for people of all ages. And once you find a few you like, others are sure to follow!
Okay, back to Halloween classroom decor. Let’s keep it simple, let it be easy, and get the most out of what we have! I’ve got a few spooky options for you that are fa-boo-lous!

Halloween color schemes
Okay, so one of the many enjoyable elements of this theme is the number of color combos you can use to decorate your classroom. The main colors in this theme are:
- Black
- Purple
- Orange
- Green
But you’ll also notice pink in there, too! Which, in spite of being a singular detail, opens up several possibilities for mixing and matching colors. And for some reason, I feel like that just throws the door wide open to decorate your classroom for Halloween the way YOU want to.
If you want to add decorative items to your classroom, think:
- Cats
- Ghosts
- Brooms (traditional or colorful)
- Witches
- Pumpkins (in all kinds of colors to match Halloween OR your year-long classroom decor theme)
- Owls (because why not???)
- Cauldrons (great for storage!!!)
These are but a snippet of ideas. The options are endless!
Halloween classroom bulletin board
In addition to mixing and match colors however you like, it’s easy to decorate this Halloween classroom bulletin board with Halloween-specific colors OR with something that already matches your classroom. For example, a simple black and white bulletin board border would look awesome here, as would wood grain, chalkboard, or white bulletin board paper. Those color schemes not only match farmhouse classroom decor themes but also match several other classroom decor themes, too. So you don’t have to start over every time you decorate your classroom for the season. You can simply change out a few accessories and call it done.
For this setup, I used the bunting from the Halloween Bulletin Board set to decorate my desk. But you could just as easily string it at the top of your bulletin board. To get more bang for your buck, print multiple copies of the bunting and string them across doors, windows, or any other focal point in your classroom. Use the scale function in your printer’s dialogue box to adjust the poster and bunting sizes up or down.
Clip the bunting to twine using clothespins or paper clips. If you have a hole punch that isn’t too big or too small, punch holes in each piece of bunting and thread string or twine through each one.
The Halloween Bulletin Board is available as a stand-alone set or as part of the MEGA Bulletin Board Bundle!
Halloween teacher binder covers
I especially love the Halloween teacher binder covers, spines, desk name plates, circle tags, and table numbers because in addition to being super-functional, the resources in this product can double as decor items. Use the circle tags as another bunting option. Or use them as part of a door display.
As for the super-functional part, the teacher binders come in not only a text editable PowerPoint format but also with a few of the following pre-filled options:
- Teacher Binder
- Student Binder
- Sub Binder
- Weekly Plans
- Monthly Calendar
- Teacher Meetings
- Notes
- Student Info
Additionally, there are subject-specific binder covers. Ooh, and if you decide you’d like to change out your classroom organization materials with each season, then you might like the Seasonal Teacher Binder Covers Bundle!
Halloween classroom decor on a budget
Decorating a classroom for each season can get expensive. To keep costs down:
- Focus on a couple of areas of your classroom to decorate.
- Use a few awesome decor pieces that stand out instead of several little pieces that may get lost (literally or figuratively) in the shuffle.
- Repurpose materials you already have (I was surprised to see several black, white, and green farmhouse pieces of mine easily doubled as Halloween decor accents).
Spiriteds, it’s Halloween time. Autumn is in the air, the leaves are changing color, and I’m over here listening to Halloween songs, enjoying my glitter pumpkins (and my stuffed owl, affectionately named Hedwig), and sipping some apple cider. I hope you find moments during October to savor the change in seasons. I’m glad you’re here. 🖤💜🧡💚
