Jump to Recipe·Print Recipe

Caper Spinach Salad is a delicious, mouthwatering, briny salad recipe that needs just FOUR ingredients. Fresh spinach, capers, a hard-boiled egg, and olive oil come together for a tangy lunch recipe! {Paleo}

Spiriteds, this Caper Spinach Salad is so simple to make, I almost didn’t even consider an actual recipe. And certainly not one I would put on the blog. Except when I first discovered it, I ate it almost every day for a week without tiring of it, and I realized everyone needs to know about this no-fuss, four-ingredient salad recipe.

Why is it so great? Because the egg yolk, juice from the capers, and the olive oil form what becomes the dressing for this salad. Tangy, rich, and creamy! Could it be easier or tastier or better than that? I think not. So let’s get a salad bowl and DO THIS!

Caper Spinach Salad ingredients

The short ingredient list belies just how flavorful this briny, tangy salad is!

  • Capers. A few teaspoonfuls, if you’re feeling mild, or a few tablespoonfuls, if you’re feeling spicy! Don’t worry about draining them. The extra juicy that will inevitably get on the salad blends nicely with the egg yolk and olive oil for a dressing-like consistency.
  • Hard-boiled egg. My favorite way to make hard-boiled eggs is to steam them for about 15 minutes and then chill them in an ice water bath for another 10 minutes. Works like a charm! See our Perfect Hard-Boiled Egg recipe for more details.
  • Olive oil. Drizzle to taste.
  • Fresh spinach. A few handfuls.

Tips to make your own Caper Spinach Salad

The process for making Caper Spinach Salad is super-easy. Amounts of each ingredient are to taste.

  • Lightly drizzle the olive oil over the salad. This prevents the salad from being too dry or too soggy.
  • Capture some of the caper juice. It blends well with the olive oil and creates a lightly-flavored dressing for the salad.
  • To make a meal prep version of this salad, layer a mason jar first with the olive oil and capers, followed by the spinach and topped with the chopped egg. Then shake everything together just prior to eating or transfer to a plate or bowl.

Caper Spinach Salad

Print Recipe

Caper Spinach Salad is a delicious, mouthwatering, briny salad recipe that needs just FOUR ingredients. Fresh spinach, capers, a hard-boiled egg, and olive oil come together for a tangy lunch recipe! {Paleo}

  • Prep Time: 5 minutes
  • Total Time: 5 minutes
  • Yield: 1 sering 1x
  • Category: Salads and Dressings
  • Diet: Gluten Free

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2–3 handfuls fresh spinach
  • 2–3 tablespoons capers (with a little juice included)
  • 1 hard-boiled egg, peeled and chopped/diced/sliced (your preference)
  • Olive oil

Instructions

  1. Place the fresh spinach on a large plate or a deep bowl.
  2. Sprinkle on, stir in, or layer the egg. Scoop the capers out of their jar, along with a little of the caper juice, and sprinkle them over the top of the salad.
  3. Drizzle olive oil over the salad ingredients and serve immediately.

    Notes

    • Ingredient amounts listed are a suggestion. This is a throw-it-all-together kind of salad. Add as much or as little of each ingredient you desire.
    • I usually add olive oil by the tablespoonfuls until I have an amount that matches what I’m in the mood for.
    • For a meal prep option, layer a mason jar first with the olive oil and capers, followed by the spinach, and, finally, topped with the chopped egg. Then shake everything together just prior to eating or transfer to a plate or bowl.
    • This salad is best enjoyed right after it’s made.
