If my daughters were classroom decor themes, this is the one they’d be. Vibrant, colorful, energetic. When I designed this theme, my only regret was not thinking of it sooner so that we could have used it during our home preschooling days. But, word on the street is better late than never. And now Back to School Classroom Decor is here in bundle form, and I am here for it.
We’re talking rainbow colors (switch out the standard red for a bright pink), notebook and chalkboard patterns, beautiful watercolor clipart, and lots of design combos for you to envision. Basically, even if you use this theme more than once, no two years have to look exactly the same.
The Back to School classroom decor theme works as well with upper elementary grades as it does with early elementary grades. The watercolor clipart is eye-catching, the digital paper backgrounds contrast with the rainbow of solid colors, and the design options are endless.

Did you know that when you buy the Back to School Classroom Decor bundle, you also get a FREE Back to School bulletin board posters set? A few are pictured on the bulletin board in these photos! This theme started out as a seasonal bulletin board posters set. When I turned the idea into a full-scale classroom decor theme, I added the original Back to School posters as a BONUS item. So, buy the bundle and get an extra set of posters on me!
BACK TO SCHOOL CLASSROOM DECOR SETUP
To say that I LOVE setting up this theme is an understatement. Putting this classroom decor theme together is fun beyond fun. Thank you for accepting my geek-out now as I tell you what I did to set everything up and still keep an eye on my budget.
- Rainbow colors: Think pink (instead of red), orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple. You can’t go wrong with chalkboard patterns and notebook paper themes, either. Both are included in this classroom design.
- Bulletin boards: I purchased a wooden bulletin board and painted it white (actually, K-Hubs painted it white, but you get the idea). I used a fadeless chalkboard bulletin board paper as the backdrop and then added the cascading rainbow border. You could just as easily use a white backdrop instead, or one of the other rainbow colors. That’s one of the many flexible elements in this theme. If you already have a color on hand (I used to frequently use a light green color), it will most likely work here, too!
- Classroom accents: Brightly colored pocket folders, book bins in several colors, and a colorful lamp will all go a long way toward enhancing your classroom without breaking the bank. Since book bins can be pricey, there are a few hacks you can use to add breathing room to your budget. One, use basic black and white book bins. They’ll fit in with this theme and will be easy to reuse year after year. Two, go rainbow. While you might not save a lot of money at the outset, like the black and white book bins, you may be able to reuse your book bins with other themes in the future, if you decide to change up your look. And three, spray paint your book bins. I’ve heard of this option but have never tried it myself. Then you can make your book bins whatever color you like (especially if you find a book bin in the right color but not in the right shade or tint).
- Shop your collection: Because this theme houses so many colors, there’s a good chance you’ll have several matching items already. For what I don’t have, I like to check not-really-a-dollar-anymore dollar bins and back-to-school specials. And if something is on clearance, you KNOW I’m nabbing it!
To keep my inventory and budget in check, I reminded myself this theme will look AMAZING even if I can’t find items in EVERY SIGNLE COLOR! Case in point – HOW DO I NOT HAVE AN ORANGE BOOK BIN? It’s an ALL CAPS question, clearly. It’s missing from this setup, but the scheme still works beautifully.
TEXT EDITABLE BACK TO SCHOOL MATERIALS
Throughout the bundle, I strive, where possible, to add text editable PowerPoint files so you can customize your classroom materials as needed. Simply type your desired content into a text box and print. Then, if you think you’ll need that material again but still want to leave an original copy, use the Save As function and save your changes with a new name. Voila! You’ll have the original file AND an updated file. If you wish you could convert your PowerPoint file to a PDF, then you’re in luck again! Instead of using the Save As function, select File —> Export and choose the file format you’d like. I often use PDF and PNG, depending on how I’ll use my finished product.
You’ll also notice there are several fonts throughout the product. Usually, this consists of a primary font, a script font, and a few fun fonts. The idea is to give you options when selecting materials to print. If you need a primary font, you’re in luck. If you’re emphasizing cursive writing in class, then you’ll have an option for that, too. And if you just want to have a little fun with some of your materials, there are fun fonts, as well. Look through the individual products to see which fonts are used in each product. If you’d like to customize your materials to match pre-filled content, font details are provided in the TOUs for each product.
