Apple Peel Tea is a gentle, flavorsome drink that feels like a warm hug. Cinnamon, coconut sugar, and cloves complement the apples for a sweet and tart sip that will wow your tastebuds! {Paleo or Vegan}

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • Peels and cores of 5 apples
  • 5–6 cups of water
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons coconut sugar
  • 2 whole cloves
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • Sweetener, optional (See Notes)

Instructions

  1. Combine water, apple peels, cores, coconut sugar, whole cloves, and cinnamon sticks in a deep saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer, covered, for one hour. Remove from heat and pour the tea through a mesh strainer. Discard what collects in the strainer.
  2. Serve Apple Peel Tea in heat proof mugs and add sweetener, if desired.
  3. Refrigerate leftovers for up to a week.

Notes

  • Yield will vary, depending on how much water you add and how much water is lost to evaporation. I usually end up with about 4 1/2 – 5 cups of tea when starting with 5-6 cups of water.
  • If you’d like to use other apple varieties then add the coconut sugar and any other sweeteners slowly. You may not need as much with sweeter apples, unless you specifically want a sweeter tea.
  • Whole cloves and cinnamon sticks work best in this recipe. However, if you want to use ground cloves and cinnamon, then you definitely can. Plan to pour the tea through the mesh strainer at least one extra time so you don’t wind up with gritty tea.
  • You can sweeten your tea with 100% pure honey (paleo), 100% pure maple syrup (paleo or vegan), or agave nectar (vegan), if you’d like. I drizzle a little into the mug while the tea is still hot.
  • Enjoy this tea warm or cold. To reheat leftovers, slow simmer in a saucepan or microwave for a minute or two.
